Health Sciences is a one-year course designed for high school students wishing to enter the medical field. Students will acquire valuable knowledge and training that will prepare them for a variety of healthcare professions. They will gain experience in basic health care, CPR, anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, and common disorders while in a lab, clinical, or classroom setting. Clinical and classroom experiences prepare students to take the state's Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam.

PROGRAM INSTRUCTORS

Instructor

Mrs. Bledsoe, MS-CTE, BSN, RN, graduated with honors in 1990 from Missouri Western State College (now MWSU) with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. She worked 26 years as a RN in multiple settings including hospital diabetic and medical surgical units, home health and long-term care. She also worked as Parent Educator and substitute nurse for North Platte R-1 Parents As Teachers program and Charge nurse and MDS coordinator for a long-term care and skilled nursing rehabilitation facility. Mrs. Bledsoe has been teaching at NCC since 2016

Heater

Mrs. Heater RN BSN, is a 1998 graduate of Rockhurst University, where she began her nursing career at Research Medical Center, working in both the ICU and telemetry step-down units. For the past eight years, she has worked in public health, specializing in communicable disease case management and clinical services at the Platte County Health Center. Mrs. Heater brings a wealth of real-world clinical and public health experience into the classroom to prepare students for meaningful careers in healthcare. Mrs. Heater hopes her students come away not just with skills, but with a true sense of the difference they can make in people’s lives.

INDUSTRY RECOGNIZED CREDENTIALS/OTHER CERTIFICATIONS

Students meeting the qualifications are eligible for the Missouri Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA). They also can earn CPR, First Aid, Stop the Bleed and OSHA for Healthcare.
